Book Fair Time!

Aloha!  Our book fair will be held in the library Monday, March 12th-Friday, March 16th.  This year’s theme is “Book Fair Luau.”  Please use the following link to visit our book fair homepage.  (http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/gordojrsrhighschool)

In addition, you will find a link to our online fair.  Thank you for your continued support of our GHS library!

Link to Public Library Website

Be sure to check out the link to the Pickens County Cooperative Library System’s website.  The link is www.pickenslibrary.com.  Students and parents may search the catalogs of any of the four public libraries in our county.  Books can be interloaned between the four libraries.  Also, books from outside Pickens County may be requested if they are not available within the county.

In addition, there are links to AVL, Homework Alabama, and many other helpful sites.  A YouTube video is even included that details how to use Homework Alabama.  With so many valuable resources available, be sure to take the time to see what our public libraries have to offer.

May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor!

What are the odds YOU will be joining us on our field trip April 6th to see “The Hunger Games”?  If you have at least 100 AR points, have read The Hunger Games, and have taken an AR test on the book, then the odds are in your favor!  The waiting list to read The Hunger Games is long, but we are making progress in moving through it.  In the meantime, check our public library for a copy.  Also, if you are a Nook or Kindle owner, The Hunger Games ebook is less than $5.00.  We hope to see you on our trip April 6th!

New Titles Coming Soon!

New titles are coming soon to your library!  Several new Urban Underground as well as three new Bluford High titles are on the list.  In addition, we are getting exciting new sequels such as Fever (the sequel to Wither), Pandemonium (sequel to Delirium), and Two Truths and a Lie (Lying Game #3).  Also, you requested it – we are working on adding titles from the Halo series, as well.  Watch for these titles coming very soon!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new school year!  I hope everyone had a great summer.  I always look forward to a new school year because it is a chance to share new things with all of you wonderful students.  At the beginning of this school year, we have several new books for you to check out.  Also, we’ll be discussing what lies ahead for this school year in our library.  I hope that you’ll find coming to the library a fun learning experience.  If Mrs. Bryant or I can ever help with anything, please let us know!

A Day at the Drive-in

In connection with recent Teen Read Week activities, our students enjoyed “A Day at the Drive-In.”  Playing on the theme, “Books that Make Your Heart Beat,” students viewed clips from classic horror films such as “Dracula,” “Frankenstein,” and “Psycho.”  Adding to the fun, students enjoyed freshly popped popcorn.  We look forward to revisiting this activity with future Teen Read Week themes!
