Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new school year!  I hope everyone had a great summer.  I always look forward to a new school year because it is a chance to share new things with all of you wonderful students.  At the beginning of this school year, we have several new books for you to check out.  Also, we’ll be discussing what lies ahead for this school year in our library.  I hope that you’ll find coming to the library a fun learning experience.  If Mrs. Bryant or I can ever help with anything, please let us know!

Candy series by Lauren Conrad will be excited to read the third installment, Sugar & Spice.  Also, fans of the Bluford High series will definitely want to check out Anne Schraff’s newest series, Urban Underground

In addition to these new titles, we have new titles from Scholastic.  Rick Riordan fans will love The Lost Hero.  Also, we have the all-new 2011 editions of Guinness World Records and Ripley’s Believe It or Not.  All these and many more are waiting for you at your GHS Library!

A Day at the Drive-in

In connection with recent Teen Read Week activities, our students enjoyed “A Day at the Drive-In.”  Playing on the theme, “Books that Make Your Heart Beat,” students viewed clips from classic horror films such as “Dracula,” “Frankenstein,” and “Psycho.”  Adding to the fun, students enjoyed freshly popped popcorn.  We look forward to revisiting this activity with future Teen Read Week themes!

Welcome back to a new school year!  I hope everyone is off to a great start!  I am looking forward to meeting with all classes next week for our library orientation.  I have a couple of changes to discuss with you as well as some exciting events we have coming up in the near future.  When you come to the library, be sure to check out our new book displays.  We have several new additions that you will want to check out.  As we have done before, you will be able to get on the waiting list for titles, so if the book you want is not here, let us know so we can get it for you as soon as possible.  See you next week!

Announcements & Upcoming Events

The Gordo High School library would like to say a special thank you to Mrs. Brenda Holder for her generous donation to our library.  Her donation enabled us to purchase several new books for the library.

Also, our book fair is coming very soon – December 1st-7th.  Our theme is “Walking in a Book Fair Wonderland.”  We hope that you will find lots of treats to purchase for yourself.  Your purchases help us add new titles to your library.  In addition, we are starting what we hope is an annual fundraiser for our library.  On Tuesday, December 1st, the library will be open from 6-8 p.m. for book fair shopping.  Gift wrapping will be available.  Also, chili suppers will be sold in the GHS cafeteria for $5.00 per person/$3.00 for children 6 and under.  Please come out and support your GHS library!

Also, we have added several new titles recently: Splendor (the 4th in the Luxe series), Tempted (the 6th in the House of Night series), The Clique: Charmed and Dangerous, Shooting Stars by Lebron James and Buzz Bissinger, The Vampire Diaries, The A-List series, and many more.  Coming soon – Watch for the entire Bluford High set, additional Kimani Tru titles, The Blind Side, and Twilight: New Moon – the illustrated companion.
